The former US president’s most recent warning to impose an further complete levy on Chinese goods has been labeled a “typical example” of American hypocrisy, as stated by the Beijing administration.

A representative of the ministry additionally remarked that the nation could enact its own unrevealed “responsive actions” if the White House occupant follows through on his warning, noting that the country was “unafraid” of a possible trade conflict.

On Friday, Donald Trump retaliated at Beijing’s move to tighten its regulations for foreign shipments of rare earth minerals, accusing Beijing of “turning aggressive” and attempting to hold the world “under its control”.

Furthermore, he warned to withdraw from a scheduled meeting with Chinese leader Xi, which was expected to take place during a conference in Seoul before the month ends.

The former president’s remarks on last Friday rattled financial markets, with the S&P 500 share index dropping over two and a half percent, marking its biggest drop since last spring.

His comments reignited fears of a trade war between the United States and China.

In May, the two sides had consented to drop significant levies on each other’s goods, which had led to concerns of trade halting between the two nations.

As a result, American import duties on Chinese goods incurring an additional thirty percent tariff compared with the start of the year, while items from the United States entering the country incur a import levy.

China’s latest remarks – issued by the Ministry of Commerce in the form of formal replies to journalist’s questions – reflected rhetoric from the peak of the ongoing trade dispute.

Officials denounced American limits on exports on electronic components while supporting the country’s own overseas sale regulations on key elements as “standard procedures” to safeguard national security and that of every country.

The official stated that for “an extended period”, the America had “overstretched the concept of domestic safety, exploited export control measures and “enforced” biased policies against the Chinese nation.

“Using” tariff threats is not the right way to interact with the Chinese government,” the official commented.

“Beijing’s stance” on a import duty dispute has remained steady: we wish to avoid one, but we are fearless of one.”

Recently, China revealed it was tightening export controls on rare earth minerals and further resources critical for cutting-edge industry.

This was seen as a significant step, as the country processes about ninety percent of the planet’s critical minerals, which are utilized in goods such as photovoltaic modules and mobile phones.

Latest statements from Washington and Beijing are being interpreted by some as a means of strengthening positions ahead of upcoming negotiations.

It is unclear whether a summit between Trump and Xi Jinping, scheduled at a high-level meeting in Seoul before month’s end, will go ahead.
