Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Fighters Group

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a exciting storyline showcasing angels, evil spirits, and sinister influences increasing in strength within the city.

Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The third episode ended with a huge suspense moment and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will split off from the central cast to embark on their separate journey, separate from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table features the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

Given 13 cast members, it was clear from the start that having everyone at one table would be unworkable.

Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Prelude, connecting the personal journeys before splitting into three smaller tables: Warriors, Schemers, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might seem out of place, but the events of episode 3 make it clear why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

First, the group understands precisely where to go next after a brutal first encounter with the antagonists.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose demise started the campaign’s events—used the foes for his own means, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the character, and stealing all the magical artifacts to auction.

The antagonist then paid off his debts and ran away to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the city, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each member has a specific drive to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, wants revenge.
  • The adventurer knows the region and advises that it is a hostile environment.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having resisted his relatives’ demands to execute the target and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • However, their reputation as important members in the powerful family could help the party enter places they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor pledged a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now accompany him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and The cleric betrayed the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the family.

This means them little choice but to travel to the northern region in quest for Casimir.

Future Episodes

From the recent installment’s follow-up content, we discover that the warrior group won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight players to assemble the Explorers and Strategists tables.

Fans can anticipate finding out which adventurers will be where in the season’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
