Lando Norris Tops Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has beaten his teammate at all of the past five race weekends.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the title advantage from Piastri by a single point after taking the win in Mexico City a fortnight back, outpaced the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Until that point, Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before the sprint shootout scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the points battle, trailing 36 points behind Norris, finished in 17th position as his Red Bull team ran a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he rotated at the fourth corner early in the session.
The Japanese spun out over the track edges before sliding over the escape zone, and was blessed to avoid just a slight brush of the wall.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also lost it, at the conclusion of the practice, rotating twice through the high-speed Mergulho corner before the final corner on to the main straight.
Hamilton ended the session in 19th place, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber third fastest, 0.619secs slower than Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
