Ten convicted of online harassment targeting Brigitte Macron

A Paris court has convicted ten people for carrying out the cyber-bullying of Brigitte Macron, the partner of France's leader, Emmanuel Macron.
The accused individuals faced accusations of disseminating untruths regarding her gender identity and sexuality, in addition to publishing defamatory statements about the couple's significant age difference.
The court delivered suspended jail terms of up to eight months to the convicted individuals. The detailed judgment has yet to be released.
A longstanding conspiracy theory alleging that Brigitte Macron is a person assigned male at birth has been in circulation since her husband's initial election in 2017.
This Monday's court decision in France comes as the Macrons engaging in a defamation lawsuit in the US against political commentator Candace Owens, who has repeatedly shared analogous false narratives about the French president's wife's biological sex.
Their lawsuit contends that Owens ignored substantial counter-evidence that refuted her assertions choosing instead to amplify the voices of notorious conspiracy peddlers.
Owens has frequently reiterated these claims on her digital program and social media channels, and in March 2024 proclaimed that she would bet her whole career on her belief that Mrs. Macron is in fact a man.
Brigitte Macron originally became acquainted with her current spouse when she taught at his secondary school.
The couple entered into matrimony in 2007, when the then-29-year-old Emmanuel Macron was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
